Surrealism
Welcome to the world of Surrealism-a world where the often-neglected subconscious and dream-states of mind are the primary inspiration behind the subject maffer. Though such imagery might appear strange, alien, or unusual, we encounter it every night in our dreams. The Surrealist Movement, originating in Paris in 1924, looked to dreams for new inspiration, with interest in flirther exploration of the human psyche. Soon, Surrealist works of art would revolutionize Western culture, enabling people to view the world from a fresh new perspective. Surrealist art served as a basis for the works you see here, created by tenth-grade Visual Arts 2 students. Their main objective was to create a surreal landscape, expressing a certain mood or emotion. Symbolism, line, and color also play a great role in communicating and giving the viewer clues as to what type of feelings the artist attempted to express (anger, joy, melancholy, ecstasy, escape, isolation, etc.). As with most art, these works are about communication and self-expression. Enjoy.
