What
is McKeever?
McKeever is an Environmental
Center that provides environmental science education. Instructors
lead students in small groups through a variety of instructional
activities that are hands-on and engaging. During this opportunity,
students are immersed in the outdoors and understanding their role
and impact on the environment. These skills and the knowledge gained
at McKeever will be furthered in the 5th grade science instruction. |
Where
is McKeever?
McKeever is about an hour north of Cranberry. It is
located in Sandy Lake which is about 15 minutes past the Grove City
exit. It is about 5 minutes off of Route 79. |
What
are the McKeever Dates?
October 1-5 and October 15-19, |
Who
will go on each trip?
· 2-4 classrooms
will attend each McKeever session
· Classroom Teachers, Nurse, PE Teacher, and other necessary
school personnel
· Parent Chaperones |
When
will they leave and return?
Students will leave from
the school around 9:00 on the first day of their trip and return around
1:15 on the third day. School Buses will transport students. |
What
will students have to bring?
They will need to pack clothes
and personal hygiene items, sleeping bag and pillow, 1 dozen cookies
(no peanut butter cookies please), rain gear, and a good pair of hiking
shoes. |
Will more information
be available?
Yes. Haine Middle School
will have a McKeever parent meeting in conjunction with the Meet the
Teacher Night on September 5th at 6:30. Specific information will
be addressed to help students prepare for the McKeever trip.
