Career Planning
To provide a solid education without exploring students' career goals and aspirations is like navigating without a compass. To ensure students find their way, we offer a variety of programs and courses that help students begin planning for the future – and a satisfying, rewarding lifestyle.
Throughout the intermediate high years students participate in career units during class, hear from career speakers, and discuss issues individually or in groups with counselors. We also utilize the Guidance Central computer program which is accessible via the Internet.
We also administer the PLAN test, which is offered to 10th grade students. This is a pre-test for the ACT (American College Testing). The PLAN measures basic academic proficiency in English, math and science reasoning. Students also receive career information based on strengths and interests.
The Junior ROTC program has been in existence at Seneca Valley for almost 40 years, offering students an opportunity to challenge themselves and expand their leadership skills. This program can help a teen feel more connected, become more physically fit, and grow socially and emotionally. Go to www.usarmyjrotc.com for more information.
For students who may wish to seek a career in a technical field, specialty area, or trade, we provide opportunities to tour the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School.
It's also important for young people to understand the value of giving something back to the community. There are many local and worldwide organizations that provide opportunities for students to volunteer their time while learning new skills.
