History

The National Honor Society, founded in 1921, became the first nationwide honor society. By 1930 the organization had acquired over 1,000 chapters, and it soon became one of the world's leading educational organizations. From the beginning, the primary goals of NHS have been "to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools."
