Music by black artists was played every morning,
and Mrs. McDonald ended the morning announcements by reading
a famous quote from an African-American.
 
Mr. Washington, a Rowan parent,
arranged for several African-American professionals
to speak with grade three students about their jobs
and also to speak about the important contributions of African-Americans in history.
