SHS Guidance

Youth Education and Support Services is an intervention and prevention program designed to help students enhance their personal goals - whether they be social, emotional, or academic.

Students often experience a variety of problems: social relationships, family problems, drug and alcohol abuse, depression and suicidal thoughts, and the inability to cope in general. Alone, they cannot deal with their problems and need help.

The Y.E.S.S. Core Team, coordinated at Seneca Valley Senior High School by Mrs. Jodie Laskey, includes concerned teachers, the school nurse, couselors, and principals. These individuals are specially trained to help, and are ready to assist a student in positive, direct manner. The goal of Y.E.S.S. is two-fold. First, Y.E.S.S. identifies students "at-risk" who are in need of supportive services and facilitates early intervention and referral when appropriate. Second, Y.E.S.S. has a leadership program which promotes positive peer role modeling through programs to elementary schools, alternative activities, and conflict resolution training.

The Y.E.S.S. coordinator, team members, and peer leaders are available to help. Parents should feel free to concat the Y.E.S.S. coordinator at the Senior High School in the Guidance Department at 453.6040 ext. 253.
